DICAFLOCK FILTER AID

What is DICAFLOCK?

DICAFLOCK is an organic material derived from wood pulp. it is practically ashless, and when bone dry, is at least 99.5% cellulose. It is non-abrasive and reasonably inert to most acidic and basic liquors. DICAFLOCK is available in a number of grades to provide optimum performance for the specific liquid being filtered.

Important DICAFLOCK Filtration Advantages

  1. Forms Firm Precoat Rapidly. DICAFLOCK fibers readily bridge the openings in metal screen, cutting precoating time to a minimum. The fibers mat of web together and interlock with filter screens without entwining or imbedding in the openings. In effect, this "papers" or "pads" the filter element depending on the amount used. A DICAFLOCK precoat resists sudden pressure drops, keeps screens and filter cloths clean, and permits easy removal of the filter cake by backwashing or sluicing. DICAFLOCK is especially effective in precoating coarse filter screens and loosely woven cloth.

  2. Eliminates Bleed-Through. Diatomite or perlite filter aids subsequently used for bodyfeed are prevented from bleeding through screen septums.

  3. Maintains Clarity. Pressure interruptions which disturb powder filter aid precoats generally do not disturb a DICAFLOCK precoat. In addition, DICAFLOCK bridges over pinholes and other small breaks in filter screens, and can even stop small manifold leaks and minor filter leaks.

  4. Removes Oil, Metallic Particles and Trace Metals. DICAFLOCK effectively removes insoluble metallic impurities and can absorb up to 100% of emulsified oil in boiler condensates.

  5. Replaces Filter Paper on Plate and Frame Presses. Many cloth dressed plate and frame filter presses are also dressed with filter paper. In general, about 1/2 the filter paper cost and 3/4 of the labor time can be saved by applying a precoat of DICAFLOCK with clean liquor.

  6. Non-Siliceous and Non-Abrasive. Since DICAFLOCK is cellulose, it is non-siliceous and eliminates any possibility of silica contamination. Its fibers are soft and resilient and will not abrade pumps and valves.

  7. Essentially Ash Free. DICAFLOCK, since it is nearly 100% pure Alpha cellulose, produces practically no inorganic contamination. Because of these unique features, DICAFLOCK filter cakes can be burned to recover valuable contents, such as catalysts , and can be incorporated into animal feed as a food fiber.

GRADESTYPICAL APPLICATIONS
DF5, DF10,
DF40
Alkaline Chemicals: The filtration of alkalis when other principal filter aids (diatomite and perlite) cannot be used because of their silica solubility. Typical examples of such filtrations are strong alkaline solutions such as 50% sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate, preparation of alumina and plating solutions.
DF40, DF200Brine Filtration: In diaphragm and mercury cell chlorine caustic plants, brine is filtered with cellulose on pressure filters.
DF40, DF100, DF200 Condensate: DICAFLOCK will effectively remove suspended metallic particles and absorb traces of oil contained in boiler condensate water, resulting in a very pure, almost solid-free filtrate. Other silica based filter aids have a slight silica solubility, making them objectionable for this use.
DF40Emulsions: DICAFLOCK will break emulsions of oil in water or the reverse and in cases where only traces of oil are emulsified in water, will absorb the oil very effectively, resulting in long cycles and high flowrates.
DF40, DF200 Catalysts and Rare Earth Metals: Since DICAFLOCK is an almost ashless material, it is the preferred filteraid for the filtration of these materials, since they can be easily recovered from the fiber cake by combustion. This also applies to the filtration of some metallic ores, such as uranium, lead, titanium, tungsten, etc.
DF5, DF10, DF40 Beer, Beverages, etc.: In these filtrations, DICAFLOCK is used as a precoat to avoid bleed-through of diatomite or perlite filter aids. A DICAFLOCK percoat permits very easy and rapid cleaning of the filters at the end of the filtration cycle, which will substantially reduce clean-up time.
