Dicalite FAX3

Diatomaceous Earth (DE): Calcined

Filtration

Calcined Diatomaceous Earth (DE), is usually pink or orange in color and is processed at temperatures of over 1000F to agglomerate and purify the material. Calcined DE grades are normally used for fine filtration where clarity of the filtrate is most critical. Dicalite Minerals Calcined DE grades provide the best clarity, however at lower flow rates than Dicalite Flux-Calcined DE’s. Calcined filter aids are normally used on vertical, or horizontal leaf filters, and also on candle type filters. Calcined filter aids are best suited to high clarity, low solids applications where removing the smallest of particulate contaminant is paramount.

Dicalite FAX5

Diatomaceous Earth (DE): Flux-Calcined

Filtration

All Dicalite Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Flux-Calcined products (except WB6) are considered a “direct-run” product. This means that the plant is able to produce the product as the desired product coming out of the kiln. As such the properties of these products can be directly controlled ensuring less variation in product parameters. Many other high-flow rate DE products are actually by-products, and not the direct run (or primary) product. By-products are produced in less quantity, and with lesser quality than a direct run product. In addition, it is more difficult to control the product parameters which translates into a wider variation in product quality, and therefore less quality control. The high-grade DE mined from the deposit at our Burney, CA location, in addition to the direct run processing, means that most our products are more consistent on our customers’ filters allowing less adjustment due to diatomaceous earth variations. This allows the customer to focus efforts on process variations without concern for the additional variations from their filter aid.

Dicalite SA-3

Diatomaceous Earth (DE): Natural

Absorbents, Additives & Fillers, Construction, Filtration, Horticulture & Agriculture, Pet Care

Two varieties of Diatomaceous Earth (DE) are made at Dicalite’s Basalt, NV location – Natural and Calcined. Processing of natural diatomaceous earth to meet customer specifications is as much of an art as it is a science. The natural diatomaceous earth products featured in this section are manufactured to meet individual customer needs across numerous industries including Construction, Agriculture, Filtration, and Additives and Functional Fillers. Once the ore is carefully selected, processing starts with size reduction; the ore is dispersed with proprietary technology liberating the Melosira, Stephanodiscus, and Eunotia diatoms from clumped aggregates. Crushed ore is then conveyed to a storage bin for feeding into the plant. Further processing involves dispersing the ore by milling and then drying out the moisture content. Separators and classifiers are then used to further size the end products. Most of Dicalite’s natural DE products’ Median Particle Diameter (MPD) range from 10 – 20µm (micron). However, finer products (<10µm) such as Dicalite 104, are available to meet a tighter micron specification. Dicalite's Basalt, NV facility has benefited from various capital investments since 2018, resulting in noteworthy increases to capacity and thus efficiencies across numerous plant components. These improvements have yielded many certifications such as OMRI certified, registration with the FDA in the food facility registration module, compliance with Halal / Kosher requirements, and maintaining FSMA compliance where applicable to our type of production, specifically the preventative controls and accountability aspects.

Dicalite Speedflow

Diatomaceous Earth (DE): Calcined

Additives & Fillers, Filtration, Industrial

Dicalite Speedflow is produced by straight calcining at temperatures of 1400F – 1800Fwithout flux. For competitive purposes, two types of Speedflow are offered. Type A is a direct offset to Imerys Celite Standard Supercell. Type B Speedflow has a higher flow rate with acceptable clarity on many filtration applications. Dicalite Speedflow is often recommended on candle and pressure leaf filters for the filtration of wines, beer, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.

Dicalite Superaid

Diatomaceous Earth (DE): Calcined

Filtration

Dicalite Superaid is a lightly calcined main-bin or calcined baghouse grade. This product has an intermediate flowrate between Dicalite 215 and UF. Dicalite Superaid gives “sharp” filtration, that is, it will remove very finely divided solids, such as bacteria, colloidal haze, and the like. Clarity secured is brilliant. Dicalite Superaid is categorized as a “Polishing Grade” and is best used in filtration applications that require a very sparkling finish such as industrial alcohols, molasses, lard, tallow, citric acid, vinegar, and more.
